Right, I battled to find this info anywhere else on the web for AGES, so here I come to save the day. Coz that’s how I roll…

I have a Nokia E71, and use two Gmail email addresses – one regular Gmail and one Google Apps address.
The Gmail address is my main one, and is busy as hell due to work, while the Google Apps one is a bit more “light-weight”. What I found is that the Gmail email notification on the home screen disappeared, whilst the Google Apps address notification was fine, and up to date as far as the unread count went. No matter what I tried I could not get the Gmail notification to return – and I tried EVERYTHING even remotely related to email settings.
After a fair bit (lots) of searching through forums where a number of folks had posted the same query, even resorting to speaking to my service provider’s tech department (fail!), I finally came across the solution.
It turns out that having an inbox that is too full is simply too much for the phone to cope with. After logging on to Gmail and archiving some of the older emails, I rechecked my mail on the phone, then restarted the phone (important – you HAVE to restart the phone for it to work), and the notification has returned and all is well with the world.
This has since happened a number of times. Every time I then go and archive some of the older rubbish in my inbox, recheck mail and finally restart the phone. Hey presto – it’s back! It seems as though the cut-off point, in my case at least, is somewhere around the 1080 emails in the inbox mark.
Don’t know if this will work all Nokia phones – I’ve only tried it with the E71.
So there you have it.
You’re welcome.

I only have 10 emails on my Gmail inbox while all the others are archived but the homepage Gmail notifier dipassaired and there is no way to have it back
any other had the same issue?
I’ll try to delete the account and see..
Thanks
I have no idea why that has happened then. No luck even after restarting the phone?
Thanks, I had the same the problem on my e71 and this solved it. There were more than 1000 messages in my gmail, I’ve archived some of them and notification is back.
Glad it helped!
