Stu Fail. I was driving in Rosebank a couple of hours ago, desperately trying to meet up with a colleague to collect some documents from him at his hotel – he had to leave in five minutes…
So naturally I drove to the wrong hotel (but of course). This meant I was going to be late, and me being ever so considerate (snigger) I thought I’d phone him quickly to inform him of my “Stu vs the sands of time” conundrum.
Guess who one-upped me? The Joburg Metro Police.
They were lurking, ready to pounce. And pounce they did. Busted. No use even arguing – I was driving, and yapping on the phone, and they knew it.
Tried the whole explanation bit about this dude needing to leave, and me needing to get there first and phoned to check where the hotel is and blah blah blah – you get the gist of it. Even asked them for directions to the correct hotel – which they provided.
Upon hearing that I was in a hurry and needed to be there in five minutes, the Metro Cop calmly replied:
“Okay, I’ll write your fine quickly then”.
Dude – you’re a legend. How can you argue with that?
So here I sit with a R250 fine, having being “failed” by a Metro Cop. Oh well…
