Why does highway traffic suck? Now you know…

Ever wondered why driving on the highway during peak time is enough to make you completely clutch out with a chainsaw?

I consider myself a bit of an expert on this, what with my regularly complained about daily trek from Pretoria to Johannesburg. Well, an expert at announcing to every vehicle within earshot that they are all complete tonsils, and would they be so kind as to get the f@ck out of my way, thank you very little.

I already know why the highway is so slow, and will share this breakthrough with you now:

• Mr BMW thinks he is The Stig, and drives at warp speed, all the while trying to defeat all possible incarnations of Olympic slalom records;
• Mr old-ass jalopy thinks that if he drives any faster than 25km/h his vehicle will self-destruct. He may have a point.
• Everyone else is slowing to have a look at the fender bender on the other side of the highway, just in case they missed something interesting, and in the process usually causing their own little contribution to panelbeater’s workloads.
• And nobody, not a single soul, would dream of actually using the slow lane, as, Heaven forbid, there might be an 18-wheeler truck using that lane somewhere just outside Bloemfontein.

My ever-so-slightly unscientific, yet obviously mind-blowing, theories notwithstanding, apparently there is another reason…
